How do I become a Certified Phlebotomist?

- You must be 18 years of older and be a high school graduate or have a GED equivalent.
- You must attend a state approved phlebotomy certification training program. - Upon successful completion of your training program and the certifying exam you shall be awarded a phlebotomy certification for a level 1 phlebotomy technician.
- If you wish to take your practice to the next level and receive a phlebotomy certification for level 2, you will have to attend advanced classes in a phlebotomy certification training program, provide documented proof of completing 1,040 hours of onsite experience, successfully complete 20 arterial punctures under the supervision of a licensed Medical Doctor. After meeting all of the above requirements, you will need to write another phlebotomy certification exam. Finally you should apply for a phlebotomy certification level 2 by sending in all of the above mentioned documents and transcripts along with the applicable fee to a certifying agency.
